A Guide to Understanding Icons and the Liturgy, Symbols and Practices of the Russian Orthodox Church
Until today there has been no book like this available for English readers. It has 174 full-page illustrations of icons in black and white and eight in full color as well as charts and instructions for reading and understanding the Church Slavonic inscriptions used on most icons.
David Coomler, a former art museum Associate Director of Collections and Associate Curator, has studied icons for some twenty years. He has assisted a number of museums in identifying icons in their collections and provides research and advice to art dealers specializing in Russian icons as well as to private collectors.
